Planning to travel this winter? You can get a discount code from Virgin America and save 20% off your flight. The first 50,000 to sign up will be emailed a promo code, which you can apply to a flight between now and Feb. 15 (I'm assuming the holidays are blackout dates, even if they weren't already full).

Avoid the holiday travel craziness and go in January when things quiet down — and get cheap.

Virgin America: 20% off a flight when you fill out a form.

OK, there's a LOT of fine print on this one, so I encourage you to read it carefully, but the gist of it is, you fill out the short form, and you will receive an email coupon good for 20% off a flight when you book by April 30 and travel between April 14 and June 15.

It looks like that's valid for up to two people's fares, but I'm no fine-print expert, so if you're interested, make sure you read all the info.

Virgin America/Twitter fare sale, $39 and up.

Virgin America and Twitter are doing some sort of social media networking web 2.0 thing blah blah, but the POINT is, you can get fares for as little as $39 one-way! The sale is today only, so don't delay.

Plus, it's a do-gooder charity thing: "For 24 hours, Virgin America will donate five dollars for every direct booking made to educational nonprofits. Virgin America will donate up to $50,000 – and 100% of the donation will go to KIPP (Knowledge is Power Program) Classroom Projects on DonorsChoose.org. DonorsChoose.org is an online charity that makes it easy for anyone to help students. Virgin America is an ongoing supporter of the KIPP Program, which operates a network of free, open-enrollment, college-prep public schools in under-resourced communities."

Flights on Virgin America starting at $44.

Virgin America is having a fare sale if you live in one of a handful of lucky cities (Seattle is included, but you can only go to SF or LA - not that that's such a hardship). Fares start at $44 one-way and some are pretty good deals, like NY to SF for $114. There's a lower rate through March 10, and then prices go up through June 20, but the deals are still pretty good.

Cyber Monday airfare from Jet Blue and Virgin America.

I've never heard of Cyber Monday airfare, but I guess it makes sense - after all, everybody books their air travel online nowadays, and there's bound to be plenty of flying happening between now and January 1. Jet Blue and Virgin America are offering a special Cyber Monday sale on selected flights.

• Jet Blue: One-way nonstop flights for $39, $69, $99. Sale fares are available for purchase on Monday, November 30, 2009, only, between 12:01 a.m. MST to 11:59 p.m. MST.
• Virgin America: Book by December 8 and fly with WiFi, movies, and more for as little as $39 each way. Travel is valid between December 3, 2009, and May 23, 2010.

Not a lot of selection for outbound Seattleites, but maybe you can persuade some out-of-state friends to come and visit you for the holidays...

I like Virgin America to begin with, but I especially like them when they're offering deals on airfare! Check out their holiday sale, details below. Plus, they're offering free in-flight wi-fi from November 10 through January 15, which normally runs $6-13 per flight.

Travel must occur between 11/10/09 and 01/15/10. Blackout dates are 11/25/09, 11/28/09 to 11/30/09, and 12/17/09 to 01/05/10.
