Today is National Donut Day, as you may have heard, and Dunkin' Donuts is also participating, though not as generously as Krispy Kreme, which is just giving away a free donut of your choice. At Dunkin', you get a free donut with purchase of a beverage today, June 1.

Still, I hear Dunkin' Donuts coffee has a very loyal following, so this may not be a problem for their fans!

We already knew that Krispy Kreme was offering free donuts on National Donut Day, but Dunkin' Donuts is giving away free donuts on June 3 too! Stop in and get a free donut of your choice with any beverage purchase.

OK, that's not quite as free as the no-strings-attached Krispy Kreme offer, but you need something to wash that frosting and grease down with, right?

In case you thought this was bogus, let me assure you that National Donut Day is totally for real. Evidently it has its origins in WWI, when Salvation Army lady volunteers bravely fried up dough circles for Our Boys on the Front, and then the entire nation developed a taste for donuts and a tradition was born. And that's why we're all fat now.

Yes, this is quite a bit of advance notice, but free donuts are important and I want to make sure you have as much time as possible to plan accordingly. Friday, June 4 (that's the week after this coming Friday) is National Donut Day, and Dunkin' Donuts wants you to have a free donut with any beverage purchase. Coffee, tea, chocolate milk... whatever floats your donut boat.

Is it National Free Iced Coffee Day today and nobody told me (or Starbucks)? Dunkin' Donuts is also offering a free 16 oz iced coffee today, at participating locations, which would be: Baltimore, MD; Charlottesville, VA; Cleveland, OH; Harrisonburg, VA; Norfolk, VA; Washington, DC; Youngstown, OH; pittsburgh, PA; Richmond, VA; Roanoke, VA; Salisbury, MD; Philadelphia, PA; and Phoenix, AZ.

It doesn't look to me like you have to print a coupon or buy anything, but I'm sure they would appreciate it if you bought a bear claw while you were there.

Well, I don't know about you, but I'm sold just after hearing the name. TURBO COFFEE! I could pretty much use that any weekday morning, but especially today. We had a staff meeting first thing, and somehow a bear claw made its way into my hand, and then I was full of almond and icing and flaky pastry and zzzzzzzzzzzzzz

Dunkin' Donuts wants you to have some free coffee! Well, actually they probably want you to buy a sackful of donuts, but this is how they're luring you inside the store. Go to any Dunkin' Donuts location on Mondays through March, and you'll get a medium hot or iced coffee for free.

Sorry, Seattleites, there don't seem to be any locations in Seattle and maybe not in all of Washington, so you'll just have to fantasize enviously about the free coffee others are enjoying across the country today.
