Free Kindle book: Through the Door (The Thin Veil).

Today's Kindle freebie is something called "urban fantasy," whatever that is. I guess we'll have to read it to find out! Download Through the Door (The Thin Veil), the first book in a forthcoming fantasy trilogy.

AmazonLocal: $6 movie tix via Fandango.

Looking for some holiday weekend plans? How about taking in a half-price movie? Today on AmazonLocal, you can get movie tickets worth up to $12 for $6. You can buy a maximum of two, and they have to be redeemed in one transaction via Fandango, but it's a pretty good deal!

Now if they'd just do half-price popcorn...

$5 for a $10 Amazon gift card, Mar. 20.

Confused? I admit that's a complicated headline for a Monday morning, so let me try again. Tomorrow, March 20, you can pay $5 and get a $10 Amazon store credit. They're doing this to promote their own daily-deals site (like Groupon), but you can spend the credit anywhere on Amazon.com - it doesn't have to be on AmazonLocal.

They're being a bit coy about how many of these deals are available, but I have a feeling they'll be server-crashingly popular, so stick with it if you have a little trouble tomorrow!

NOW 41 for $0.25.

Want to keep up with the hippity-hop that the kids are listening to these days? Or do you just need some new tunes for your workout/cleaning/dance-party playlist? Either way, you can't go wrong with NOW 41, for just a quarter. You can't even buy a gumball with that anymore!

Even if you just see one or two songs you like, it's still cheaper to buy this whole album than to purchase one song a la carte on iTunes, so go nuts! Impress your friends (and their kids).

Free holiday song-a-day from Amazon.

Ready for nonstop holiday music between now and the 25th? If you need more holly jolly in your life, check out the free-song-a-day offer on Amazon.com. Every day, another new holiday song is available for free download, so there are already five free songs waiting for you!

This offer is how I originally heard the Lady Gaga "Christmas Tree" song, which has become one of my favorites, so I'm looking forward to seeing what they have this year...

And I just want to point out that Country Living is much better than you're probably thinking — it's not like Country Bunnies Monthly or anything. For $5, you can afford to check it out, right?

Amazon: Free summer music playlists.

Finally, something besides Borders coupons, amirite? Since it looks like we might have a summeresque day (after a disappointing weekend of rain), here are some totally free summer music playlists from Amazon for your downloading pleasure:
You can use your Borders coupon for one of those tote bags with the built-in iPod plug-in and speakers if you really want to be summer-ready, though.

Amazon: 5GB of free Cloud Drive online storage.

This might be less tangible than some other freebies, but it might just be the most valuable one of all — Amazon is offering 5GB of free storage space when you set up a free Cloud Drive account. That's enough to hold about 1,000 songs.

Having an external drive to back-up your computer is nice, but unless you keep it in a separate location, it won't protect your data in the event of a fire/robbery/tsunami. Keep an extra copy of your precious photos, videos, or Great American Novel stored online and never have to worry about lost data again!

A free Android app every day at Amazon's Appstore!

Yesterday, Amazon launched their new Android Appstore (that's a lot of A words!), which gives Android smartphone-havers an easy way to browse, try out, and download apps within the familiar Amazon interface.

To encourage people to come and check it out, they're giving away a different free paid app every day! Yesterday it was Angry Birds Rio, which I downloaded successfully. Today it's some poker game, which is less interesting to me.

The process is a bit convoluted: when you go to the appstore home on Amazon and click "Get app," it will ask for your email or cellphone number, and send you a link to the appstore app download. You need to have your Mobile 1-click Amazon settings turned on, even to "buy" a free app, but once you've done that, it works pretty seamlessly.

What will you download for your Android phone?

Amazon: 2 magazine subscriptions for $15.

Amazon's 2-subscriptions-for-$15 offer rolls on through Feb. 28, but it seems to me that they've added some titles, so I thought I'd post it again. I mean, I don't remember Urban Farm, Reptiles Magazine, or Horse Illustrated on there, but I could be wrong.

Delight your favorite urban equestrian snake breeder with a brace of subscriptions today!

Amazon magazines: Spend $20, get $10.

Amazon has another magazine promotion this week: when you spend $20 in their Magazine Store, you'll get a bonus $10 store credit good through Mar. 4. And it's not like you can't find something to buy on there between now and then, right?

To help you hit your spending goal, they have a selection of 2 for $15 and 2 for $20 subscriptions on sale now. Here's the fine print, but it seems pretty straightforward; looks like you can even combine multiple orders to qualify. If your mailbox has been feeling a little lonely, there's nothing like some fun magazines to cheer it up and give it a sense of purpose...

Amazon: 2 magazine subscriptions for $15.

It really is the week of magazine subscription deals... now Amazon has a new magazine sale, where you can pick two subscriptions for $15 total. The discount will show up in your cart when you purchase two qualifying subscriptions in one transaction.

The catch is, several of these titles are magazines that frequently go on sale for $7 or even $5 per subscription at other times... so I don't know that this is really the best deal for all of these. But for titles like Popular Science or Reader's Digest, which tend not to be on super-cheap sales much, this could be a winner.

LivingSocial: Pay $10 for a $20 Amazon e-gift card.

This one's been floating around the Internets for about a day, but I was a little dubious at first — however, it seems to be the real deal, so maybe Amazon was just tired of making all the money in the world. Anyway, pay $10 and get a $20 Amazon e-gift card* (really just a promo code), which does not expire.

Since I order stuff from Amazon seemingly every other week, I figured I can definitely use it. It's not exactly a freebie, but still a pretty sweet bargain.

*Full disclosure: that's my referral link, which may give me a discount if enough people clickthrough and buy. But I still think it's a great deal.

Amazon: Redbook subscription for $3.

Here's another magazine deal from Amazon... just $3 for a one-year Redbook subscription! (Again, make sure you pick the non-auto-renewal option that just says "12 issues.") If you're a current subscriber, they'll just tack the extra 12 months on to the end of your existing subscription.

It looks like $8 at first, but if you look underneath the product image at the "Special Offers" section, you'll see that an extra $5 off discount comes off automatically at checkout. What a deal!

Amazon: Cosmo subscription for $5.

The holidays are over, so now it's time to treat yourself: get a one-year subscription to Cosmopolitan for $5! (Note: make sure to choose the first option, for a regular subscription, NOT the auto-renewal.) I could have used some trashy magazines while cooling my heels in the airport this weekend... it would have soothed my disappointment at not getting the extra-special probe from security.

Amazon: 25 days of free music - a new holiday MP3 every day.

And speaking of free music from Amazon, how about a new holiday song for free every day from Dec. 1-25? Download festive music each day, free, using the Amazon MP3 downloader (which is free, easy to use, and automatically exports songs to iTunes).

Last year I got a wacky Lady Gaga Xmas song this way, so I'll be curious to see what they offer us this year.

Amazon: Free National Geographic world music sampler.

Oh, they can try to make me call it "Nat Geo," but I won't. I won't, do you hear me? That's... pretty much the dumbest rebranding ever, and is it actually convincing anyone that NATIONAL GEOGRAPHIC is hip to what the kids are saying these days? Should NG even care about that?

(On a side note, it turns out that National Geographic has its own music label, which I did not know, so maybe this is like their rapper name or something?)

Whatever. Fine. Here's a free world music sampler, courtesy of a certain DJ Nat Geo in the hizzy.

Coinstar: Cash in $40, get a free bonus $10.

Want to cash in some of that change that's been piling up in your coin jar, and get a little something extra for yourself at the same time? Coinstar makes it easy with their current promotion. Through Dec. 31, cash in $40 at Coinstar for an e-gift card with participating merchants, and on the bottom of your receipt you'll see a promo code. Enter the code on Coinstar's website, and they'll mail you the bonus $10 gift card!

Currently participating merchants include Borders, Lowe's, iTunes, Regal Cinemas, and Rixty, and Amazon will be joining the fun on Dec. 9. Scrounge up some change and get the rest of your holiday shopping done painlessly!
